This one broke my heart, pieced it back together little by little, only to shatter it again! Mags is an Army widow, who lost her husband in a freak accident when he was deployed to war. This is her story of living with the pain, moving on and surviving with the guilt. Reliving her memories of her husband Randy are bittersweet. His kindness and love for Mags shine through in everything he did. They were the 'IT' couple, they knew they were meant to be together and live HEA. But sometimes, HEA just isn't reality and we must live the hand we're dealt.
"My college years were a blur of studying and partying. The only thing I can say held any significance was meeting Randy, the fraternity guy with a great smile. Meeting him lifted me off the ground in an instant. And just as quickly, I crashed back down to earth the day I found out he hadn't held up his end of the bargain. I never realized 'until death' would come before kids and old age for us. Missing my husband was never going to go away; I just wished the guilt of still living would."
Walker was Randy's right hand man. They were inseparable in college and enlisted into the Army together. Walker was with Randy the day of the accident and from that day forward, made it his life's mission to take care of Mags and Randy's parents instead of returning home. He always knew how to be there for Mags and slowly brought her out of her spiraling depression. But her feelings for him became more than that of friendship and a mutual loss of someone important to them. He was breathing life back into her, giving her a reason to get up every morning again.
'Walker bent down a little so he could look me directly in the eye, putting both his hands on my shoulders. "Mags, he's dead. Say the word and I will walk out that door and never talk to you again. I've loved you for awhile. And I want to be with you. If it has to be only as friends, I'll handle it, but that's not what I want." Walker sighed, light tears starting to roll down his cheeks as he slid onto the recliner with his head in his hands, his voice shaky and pleading.'
But there are some major secrets hidden in Walker's closet and it will shatter the very fragile foundation Mags had just begun rebuilding for herself. Everything she knows and feels about Walker will be tested to the ultimate limit.....and then.....BAM! You have to wait for Falling Back Together (Book2)! The last sentence in this book about killed me! Anxiously awaiting the next!
